'Supreme' hearing on republic day violence today, demand for inquiry commission

New Delhi: Petitions filed in the apex court regarding the violence on Republic Day will be heard today. A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna, and Justice V Ramasubramanian can hear. A petition has also requested the constitution of a commission for investigation and an investigation has also been sought into the incident of Republic Day.

Along with this, in the second petition, the media has been requested to give directions for coverage of the farmer movement and a request to ban farmers from being called terrorists. So far, around five arguments have been filed in the Supreme Court seeking action against those involved in the violence. One of the petitioners has asked the NIA to initiate a court-monitored probe into the Republic Day violence. The petition states that agitators cannot be allowed to carry out violence in the name of opposition to the government. Freedom of expression and opposition cannot be absolute and the rights of others must be considered.

Another petitioner urged the Supreme Court to issue directions to register an FIR against the people or organization responsible for insulting the national flag.
