New Delhi: The Supreme court will hear next week in a 1994 espionage case involving Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientist Nambi Narayanan. A high-level committee constituted in 2018 to investigate the matter has recently submitted its report. The Supreme Court had constituted a three-member committee on 14 September 2018 under the leadership of its former judge (retd) DK Jain to investigate the case and paid him a sum of Rs 50 lakh for Narayanan's "gross insult" to the Kerala government. Was ordered to pay compensation.

The Supreme Court ordered the appointment of one officer each in the Central and State Government Committee, ordering the formation of a committee to take appropriate steps against the officials guilty of "harassing and torturing them". The case was listed for quick hearing before the bench of Chief Justice (CJI) SA Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna, and Justice V Ramasubramanian.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that a report has been filed and it is a "national issue". On this, the court said that it considers it an important matter, but a speedy hearing is not necessary. The bench said, "We will hear this next week".
