Patna: Bihar government is constantly trying to make the prohibition law effective. The Government is continuously taking strict action against liquor smugglers and liquor drinkers for the same reason. The Supreme Court has now expressed its displeasure over the Bihar government's cases on the rise due to prohibition law.

A bench headed by Chief Justice CJI NV Ramana while hearing the Bihar liquor smuggling cases lashed out at the Bihar government saying that the cases have choked the courts. 14-15 judges of Patna high court are hearing only these cases. Because of this and they are not able to hear any case. It is taking one year to list the case in the High Court. In addition, the Supreme Court simultaneously rejected 40 appeals of the Bihar government.

The Bihar Government had gone to the Supreme Court to reject the bail of those who were arrested by the police in liquor cases. But they were granted bail by the Patna High Court. Talking to newspersons on behalf of the Bihar government, advocate Manish Kumar said, the High Court has granted bail to criminals involved in serious violation of law without giving any reason, while the law provides for imprisonment ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment for these serious offences.
