Surekha used to study in Aligarh Muslim University. Abraham Alakaji Saheb arrived with a play of his own. The play was titled The King Lear. Surekha's sister was impressed by this drama and made up her mind to enroll in the National School of Drama. The NSD form also arrived but that form remained the same for several days. After this, her sister did not feel like going to NSD. Surekha's mother said that why don't you fill this form. Surekha first said that she wants to become a writer. But at the behest of her mother, she tried her luck. She filled the form, auditioned and was selected in 1965. After this Surekhaji never looked back.
