Surge in Air Travel: Mumbai Airport Handles 13.4 Million Passengers in Q1 FY2025

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) saw a significant boost in passenger numbers, welcoming over 13.4 million travelers in the first quarter (Q1) of the financial year 2025. This marks an increase of more than 7% compared to the same period last year.

Passenger Statistics:

Total Passengers: 13.46 million in Q1 FY2025, up from 12.49 million in Q1 FY2024.
International Travelers: 3.7 million
Domestic Travelers: 9.7 million

April started strong with 4.3 million passengers, followed by a rise to 4.7 million in May, showing a month-on-month growth of 7.9%. June saw 4.39 million passengers, indicating a steady demand for air travel from Mumbai. Additionally, CSMIA managed 59,775 domestic Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) and 21,519 international ATMs, reflecting a 4% increase from Q1 FY2024.

May 2024 Highlights:

Busiest Month: 4.7 million passengers
Highest Single-Day Traffic: May 18 with 163,166 travelers

Top domestic destinations from CSMIA included Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, attracting over 6.9 million passengers. Internationally, Dubai, Singapore, and London were the most popular, with Dubai leading with over 0.61 million passengers.

The top five international destinations saw over 1.5 million passengers collectively, while the top three domestic destinations accounted for over 3.4 million passengers.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), domestic airlines carried 793.48 lakh passengers from January to June 2024, up from 760.93 lakh in the same period the previous year, representing a 4.28% annual growth.
