Suriya took a big risk of upsetting distributors, exhibitors and producers of Tamil Cinema, when he released his wife, Jyothika’s film Ponmagal Vandhal on Amazon Prime Video, OTT platform directly. As expected, the exhibitors and distributors got really angry and upset which resulted in a ban on his films. Fans of Suriya stood by him and the ban has been eased out. But the theatres seem to take at least another two to three months to re-open and for them to function normally, it might take six months' time after re-opening them with vaccines being made available for everyone.
Suriya wanted to release his film, Soorarai Pottru by December end but it got delayed due to VFX work further and further. With the situation, the actor is thinking about going for an OTT release for the film. Sudha Kongara directed the film and in Telugu, it is titled Aakasam Nee Haddu Ra. The film cleared the censor recently and this added fuel to the speculations that movie will go for an OTT release for sure.
Right now, even Suriya cannot guarantee about the movie release in Theatres or on OTT platforms. His fans and industry want him to wait but the financial issues might force him to go for an early release than to delay it further. Let’s wait for an official confirmation from the team.
