Turkey: According to the Anadolu news agency, three survivors, including one child, were successfully pulled from the wreckage of a building in Turkey's Hatay province on Saturday.
Nearly 300 hours after the back-to-back earthquakes shook Turkey and neighbouring Syria, a reporter for Turkish television station NTV reported that one of the three, believed to be a child, had later passed away in a hospital.
We heard shouts an hour ago as we were digging, according to rescue team member Atay Osmanov, who spoke to Reuters. "We are always happy to find people who are alive."

According to reports from the scene, rescuers asked for complete silence as they used electronic sound detectors to search the rubble for survivors. If you can hear my voice, take a deep breath, the worker was heard telling the survivors.
Following the natural disaster on February 6, rescue teams are still looking for survivors. This enormous task has grown more challenging with time, and it is estimated that more than 264,000 residential apartments have been destroyed.

As of Saturday, Turkey had confirmed the deaths of 40,642 people, while Syria had confirmed the deaths of more than 5,800. Both numbers should increase—in Syria's case, dramatically. The quantity of people still missing has not been estimated by either nation.
Turkish citizens are becoming increasingly incensed at alleged malpractice in residential building development. One such example is the allegedly "earthquake-proof" Ronesans Residence in Antakya, in the country's south, which collapsed during the earthquake and killed hundreds, including former Chelsea footballer Christian Atsu.
