He told that "Sant Gadge was the first person in Indian history who not only made people aware of Swachh Bharat on a large scale but devoted his entire life to cleanliness. He used to clean himself first in whichever place or village he went for awareness. He also gave this message to the people that the environment around them should be kept clean without expecting help from the government staff or anyone else. Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar considered him his guru due to these and many such qualities of Gadge Baba. The institution started awarding cleanliness honours in his name from the central government".
