In Switzerland, there is a demand to ban animal testing before the use of drugs. In fact, through a referendum in Switzerland, voters are going to decide whether to ban animal testing here or not. If there is more voting in favour of the ban, Switzerland will be the first country in the world where the test on animals will be banned.

Strict controls on cigarette advertising will also be considered. The people who are campaigning to ban animal testing want to end all kinds of experiments on other animals, including rats. In fact, under the Swiss system of direct democracy, enough signatures were gathered to vote and supporters of the ban are facing stiff opposition from the country's large pharmaceutical sector.

On the other hand, pharmaceutical companies say that such research is needed to develop new drugs. Proponents of banning the trial of animals have alleged that the practice of animal testing is morally wrong and unnecessary. With this, government data reveals that more than 500,000 animals were killed in Swiss laboratories in 2020.
