New York's Nassau County is stepping up security measures for the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan on June 9, following a terror threat. Despite state Governor Kathy Hochul's assurance that there is no credible threat "at this time," authorities are not taking any chances.

Eisenhower Park Stadium in Nassau County will host eight matches of the tournament, including three involving India. Additionally, India will play a practice match against Bangladesh on June 1.

Governor Hochul has instructed state police to enhance security to ensure the safety of spectators. "In preparation for the World Cup, my team has been working with federal and local law enforcement to keep attendees safe. While there is no credible threat at this time, I've directed the NYPD to elevate security measures, and we'll continue to monitor as the event nears," Hochul announced on social media.

This decision comes after a report highlighted that New York officials are implementing safety measures due to a global threat issued earlier this year by terror group ISIS-K. Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder confirmed that a threat linked to ISIS-K was received in April, with specific threats targeting the India-Pakistan game on June 9. These threats included references to a viral video calling for a lone wolf attack.

Commissioner Ryder assured the public of the extensive security efforts, stating, "This is the largest security operation in the county's history. The safest place to be in Nassau County on June 9 will be inside that stadium."

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman described the event as a "Super Bowl on steroids," anticipating large crowds, particularly from expatriate communities. Blakeman emphasized that the county has been preparing for over six months, addressing both security and healthcare concerns associated with such a large event. He stressed the county's serious approach to every threat and the collaboration with federal agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security.

India's campaign will start with a match against Ireland on June 5, followed by the highly anticipated game against Pakistan on June 9, and a match against hosts USA on June 12.

The initial terror threat was revealed by Trinidad's Prime Minister Keith Rowley, prompting the International Cricket Council (ICC) to affirm that robust security measures are in place to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.
