Cricket West Indies (CWI) has assured the public of stringent security measures ahead of the T20 World Cup amid reports of a terrorist threat. Jonny Graves, CEO of CWI, emphasized their close collaboration with host country authorities to ensure safety.
Following reports of a terror threat originating from North Pakistan, concerns have been raised about the safety of the upcoming T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA. The threat, reported by Cricbuzz, cited pro-Islamic State (IS) media urging violence against sporting events.
"We are vigilant and continuously evaluate global risks to safeguard our event," stated Graves, highlighting their commitment to a robust security plan. The tournament, scheduled from June 2 to 29, involves matches across various Caribbean islands.
Barbados regional security officials are actively monitoring potential threats, according to the Cricbuzz report, which also mentions intelligence received via pro-IS media group 'Nashir Pakistan.' Despite these concerns, CWI reassures stakeholders of their unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all involved.
