New Delhi: The Supreme Court has said on Thursday that the right to freedom of speech and expression has been "the most misused" in recent times. The statement was made during the hearing on the petitions of CJI s a Boelder, Justice a S Bopanna and Justice v Ramasubramanian bench Nejayat Ulema a Hind and others. The petitions alleged that a section of the media was spreading communal discord on the programme of the Tablighi Jamaat during the Corona epidemic.

The court lashed out at the centre for its ' fraudulent ' affidavit on the issue. The court said the right to freedom of speech and expression has been "the most misused" in recent times. The court made the remark when senior advocate Dushyant Dave, on behalf of the Jamaat, said that the Ked has said in his epaute that the petitioner wants to crush the freedom of speech and expression.

The court said, "They are free to say anything in their affidavit as if you are free to argue whatever you want." The court was outraged that an additional secretary, replacing the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, filed an affidavit which had written "unnecessary" and "untenable" in connection with media reporting in the Tablighi Jamaat case.
