Taipei: After China blocked more Taiwan imports on Sunday, Taiwan's premier alleged that China was discriminating against the island and breaking international trade laws.
Chinese customs officials "suddenly suspended" imports of some alcoholic beverages from the island on Friday, according to Taiwan's finance ministry.
It claimed the action was in response to a rule implemented by Beijing on January 1, requiring all food and alcoholic beverage exporters to the Chinese mainland to register with Chinese customs. Some Taiwanese businesses were still being investigated.

According to Premier Su Tseng-chang, Beijing is allegedly breaking World Trade Organization (WTO) rules by "making up its own rules" and "interfering with trade through administrative means".
China "is particularly hard on Taiwan and has a bias on Taiwan in particular ... Taiwan was told to do this and that," he told reporters on Sunday.
He said Taiwan intends to file a WTO complaint and will support the affected companies. Beijing claims Taiwan is a part of its territory that it will possibly one day seize by force.

Since the election of President Tsai Ing Wen in 2016, it has increased military, diplomatic and economic pressure on the island. In the past, it has also banned the import of other products from the island as relations deteriorated.
In retaliation for House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taipei in August, which sparked a fierce response from Beijing and a flurry of military exercises, China imposed new restrictions on the import of certain fruits and fish.
When the annual harvest was in full swing last year, pineapple imports were halted by Chinese authorities, who claimed to have found pests in the shipments. Of the 28 beer and distillery products registered by Taiwanese exporters, 11 were suspended as of Friday, according to Taiwan's semi. -Official Central News Agency, citing Chinese Customs.
One of the affected businesses is the government-run Taiwan Tobacco & Liquor Corp.

Shipments of 123 out of 354 additional beverage products have also been halted, according to the report, including products from Taiwanese food company Uni-President Enterprises.
