KABUL: The Taliban-led Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has pledged to continue serving as a mediator between the Pakistani government and the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terror group in order to maintain regional stability.

"Based on its main and permanent policy of supporting security and stability in the region, the IEA has continued to mediate between the Pakistani government and the TTP and is still continuing its efforts and hoping for good results," a spokesman for the Taliban government, Inamullah Samangani, source said.

The TTP issued a statement after more than 50 ethnic elders from seven Pakistani tribal regions arrived in Kabul, requesting the Islamabad government to withdraw its troops and negotiate a truce. According to media report, the TTP has also demanded the complete freedom of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's tribal territories from the Pakistani Army.

The IEA has frequently mediated between the TTP and the government in Islamabad in recent months, but Pakistani tribal elders have indicated that their journey to Kabul is intended to settle on a longer truce with the Taliban administration in Afghanistan's help.

The TTP has demanded the repeal of draconian laws, the release of its members by the Pakistani government, and a reduction in military presence in tribal areas over the past 14 years.
