ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government has successfully extended the ceasefire deal between Pakistan and the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for an unlimited period following successful discussion.
As per reliable sources, the Pak-TTP agreement has been extended indefinitely, with the mutual understanding that negotiations will continue to find a solution to the continued insurgency in the tribal border region, which has wreaked havoc on the region for at least two decades.
The ceasefire extension is a significant achievement since it reflects positive cooperation between the TTP insurgent factions and Pakistan's armed forces and military leadership. It's also worth noting that the talks are being organised by the Afghan Taliban leadership, which has played a key role in getting both parties to the negotiating table in Kabul.
According to sources aware of the situation, the Afghan capital Kabul served as a meeting site for both Afghan Taliban and Pakistani army officials, as well as separate detailed meetings with tribal elders from the bordering territories.
"After separate discussions with Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund, Acting Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan (IEA), at his office, two sides agreed to extend the ceasefire and continue peace talks," the sources said.
