KABUL: The Taliban leadership in Afghanistan has said that negotiations with Turkish and Qatari corporations to operate the technical operations of five main airports in the country are still ongoing.

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) said in a statement that the parties concerned were discussing the legal issues of the contracts, according to reports.

A technical team from Afghanistan recently visited Doha for talks, according to MoTCA, but no final decision has been taken.

On Thursday, Ministry spokeswoman Imamuddin Ahmadi said, "The technical team of the MoTCA is still negotiating about handing over the technical activities of Kabul airport to technical teams from Turkey and Qatar."

Regular commercial flights have been banned in Afghanistan since the Taliban took control of the country in August of last year.

With the turnover of the airports in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar, Mazar, and Mazar to international corporations, hope for the resumption of these flights has grown.
