Renowned Tamil actor Thavasi passed away after a hard battle with Cancer on Monday evening at Madurai’s Saravana Multispeciality Hospital. Dr P Saravanan, Managing Director of Saravana Multispeciality Hospital, took to Twitter to express his condolences to the actor’s family. Doctor was treating the artist for free of cost after the actor's plea for treatment help went viral. 

“Character artiste Thavasi was admitted to our hospital on November 11 with advanced cancer of the food pipe. We were treating him in a separate room with the help of oesophageal stent. Earlier today, he was moved to the intensive care unit of the hospital after he faced difficulty in breathing. He passed away around 8 pm today. I express deepest condolences to his family, friends and fans,” said Saravanan. 

Actor Thavasi, released a video message couple of weeks ago, seeking financial assistance for his cancer treatment. In his video, he said, “I have acted in films from Kizhakku Cheemayile to the latest Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe. I never thought that I would get such a disease". Thavasi was known for movies like Kizhakku Cheemayile, Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, Rajini Murugan and Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai among others. He was also seen in the TV show Rasathi. Rajinikanth-starrer Annaatthe is his last film and is expected to hit theatres next year.
