Chennai: Police in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu have arrested four people, including a woman, for scamming more than 100 people on the promise of government jobs.

Renuka, Gandhi, Mohanraj, and Rajendran were all arrested by the Central Crime Branch of the Tamil Nadu police on Sunday. They were all from Nanmangalam. The people who were arrested were held in judicial custody.

Police say that the gang's leader, Renuka, made a fake government ID card and used it to scam people. Across the state, the gang had hired agents who called job-seekers and took them to the gang that took their money.

PWD, school education, government hospitals, and the government secretariat were all promised government jobs for the people who lost their jobs. The group did interviews outside of the government departments. They then took the candidates to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for a check-up.

They'd take "outpatient" slips with their names on them to the hospital. The candidate would be taken inside for a check-up. There was no involvement by the hospital staff in this, police said. They did the health check-up as part of their job. Police say that a few days after the medical check-up, the gang sends out fake posting orders to the people who want to join.
