Chennai: A bill was passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly last Monday and the NEET examination will no longer be held in the state after the bill becomes law. In addition, medical colleges will be admitted on the basis of marks obtained in Class XII to ensure social justice. As part of the information received, the issue of the student who committed suicide before appearing for the National Entrance and Eligibility Test also came up for discussion in the Assembly. Meanwhile, the main opposition AIADMK hit out at the state government over the incident. Thereafter, Chief Minister MK Stalin introduced the Bill which was supported by Congress, AIADMK, PMK, and other parties. Meanwhile, BJP walked out of the House opposing the government's move.

As per the provisions of the Bill, admission to undergraduate level courses in Medical Colleges in Tamil Nadu will be made on the basis of marks obtained in Class XII in Medicine, Dental, Indian Medicine, and Homoeopathy. As soon as the House reassembled, the leader of the opposition party Palaniswami raised the issue of Dhanush, a 19-year-old student who committed suicide last Sunday in his home district of Salem and criticized the government. In the meantime, he first said that the DMK had promised to cancel NEET but it was not done and many students were not ready for it. Meanwhile, some of Palaniswami's statements were removed from the record by Assembly Speaker M Appavu. In fact, the opposition MLAs had come with black badges.
