The lawyer's wing of the Tamil Nadu BJP is calling for tough action against a small minority of attorneys who are opposed to the Chief Justice (CJ) of the Madras High Court being transferred to the Meghalaya High Court.

In a memorandum sent to the President of India, the Chief Justice of India, and the All India Bar Council, Advocate R.C. Paul Kanagaraj, the head of the Tamil Nadu BJP lawyers wing, called on the President of India, the Chief Justice of India, and the All India Bar Council to take strong action against a fringe group of lawyers who were smearing the judiciary with unnecessary protests. Apart from the current protest against the removal of serving Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee, the BJP lawyer wing leader said that the same group had protested against the transfer of former Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Justice Vijaya Thahilramani.

"We have endorsed the Collegium's decision, which will be in the best interests of the judiciary, and 574 attorneys have signed it," R.C. Paul Kanagaraj said. A group of advocates, including 31 designated senior advocates, have expressed opposition to Justice Sanjib Banerjee's transfer from the Madras High Court to the Meghalaya High Court.
