Tamil Nadu, one of the worst hit state by the deadly coronavirus is seeing a good progress with less number of COVID-19 positive cases. Tamil Nadu recorded more than 1 crore RT-PCR tests (1,00,29,222) for the COVID-19 samples, between Saturday and Sunday around 73,012 samples has been tested over the 24 hours. It is a pride moment for the state and comes nearly nine months after it started testing samples for the pandemic.

Tamil Nadu stands second highest in the number of tests, Uttar Pradesh is the top in the list, where rapid antigen tests are said to have been used. The state government bulletin tells fresh cases are on the decline. Total number of 6,94,880 persons has been discharged out of 7,27,026 who were infected. At the initial stage of testing, the samples were only tested at the King’s Institute in Chennai and before that Tamil Nadu sent samples to the National Institute of Virology in Pune.

As of April 1st Tamil Nadu had barely performed a total of 3000 tests  and in the following months due to immense ramped up testing process, the state has reached 1 million mark by end of June. Following a reduction in cases, Tamil Nadu government has given various concession in the lockdown rules.
