CHENNAI: Amidst the global pandemic coronavirus, the Tamil Nadu government has approved the holding of Jallikattu, the traditional sport of controlling bulls, although Jallikattu has been approved with some conditions. The government has issued some guidelines for organizing this game. According to them, more than 150 people will not be able to participate in Jallikattu.

Players participating in the game must submit a certificate of coronavirus to be negative. Apart from this, only 50 per cent of the total capacity of the audience will be allowed to gather at the venue. Jallikattu is a very old tradition in Tamil Nadu. Jallikattu is part of Pongal, a festival celebrated on 15 January in Tamil Nadu for new produce. Before the Jallikattu festival, the people of the village get their oxen to practice. Where the bull rubs its horn on a pile of clay and prepares for jalikattu. The bull is tied to the pegs and it is also practised to provoke him so that he gets angry and strikes him with his horns.

Jallikattu is a 400-year-old tradition in Tamil Nadu. Which was famous among warriors. In ancient times, women used to resort to jallikattu game to choose their husband. The Jallikattu game was organized like a selfie, any warrior who managed to get control of the bull, women would choose him as their husband. This name of the game Jallikattu is made from 'Salli Kasu'. Salli means coin and cash mean tied in horns.
