Tamil Nadu- Chennai: The government of Tamil Nadu said on Monday that semester exams scheduled for later this month at Chennai University had been postponed indefinitely owing to the state's Covid-19 issue.

K Ponmudi, the Minister of Higher Education, said the decision was made in cooperation with Chief Minister M K Stalin, who was concerned about the welfare of students.

"Due to the rising covid numbers, all university exams have been postponed indefinitely." He informed reporters here that the amended schedule would be announced later. Colleges are currently closed for study vacations, and if any institution remains open after receiving complaints, it will be asked to close down, he added.

Tamil Nadu reported 12,895 new cases on Sunday, with 51,335 active illnesses, following a sharp increase in coronavirus cases over the previous three days.
