IIT Delhi continues to be a top choice for global employers, consistently producing graduates who are highly employable. This year, IIT Delhi secured a place in the prestigious 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Global University Employability Ranking and Survey (GUERS), cementing its reputation as one of the world's leading institutions. Known for its focus on technological expertise and practical skills, IIT Delhi remains a strong competitor, staying ahead of many global counterparts in the hiring race.
Indian Universities Shine Globally
Indian universities have made impressive strides in the 2025 GUERS rankings, with 10 Indian institutions entering the top 250 list. This marks a positive change from the previous year, which saw nine institutions featured. The rankings are based on feedback from employers who evaluate the employability of graduates from universities worldwide.
Among Indian institutions, IIT Delhi continues to lead, ranking 28th despite a slight dip. It remains the highest-ranked Indian university, followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), which has climbed from 55th to 47th. This reflects a growing global recognition of India's higher education institutions.
Technological Focus Attracts Global Employers
IIT Delhi’s success can be largely attributed to its emphasis on technology and practical learning, which are highly valued by global recruiters. According to the THE report, “This success is largely due to the technological specialization of its institutions, attracting the attention of international employers.”
The GUERS survey indicates that employers are looking for graduates with relevant work experience, but other qualities such as a digital mindset and strong collaboration skills also play a vital role. Employers particularly value candidates who are adaptable and willing to learn new technologies, with 45.9% of employers stressing the importance of this ability. Communication and teamwork, with 45.1% of employers highlighting these skills, are also crucial for success in the global job market.
Rising Presence of Asian Universities
The 2025 rankings also highlight the rising prominence of Asian universities, with 52 institutions from Asia now in the top 250, three more than the previous year. Chinese universities, such as Peking University and Tsinghua University, have made significant progress, furthering Asia’s influence in global higher education.
American and European Universities Maintain Their Lead
On the global scale, American universities like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and California Institute of Technology (Caltech) continue to dominate the rankings. Universities from the US and UK hold 10 out of the top 20 spots, with American institutions maintaining a stable presence, totaling 52 universities in the top 250 this year.
While some Canadian universities, like Université de Montréal/HEC and McMaster University, have seen a decline in rankings, others, including the University of Toronto, McGill University, and the University of British Columbia, have retained their strong positions. The Gulf region, particularly the UAE, has also seen progress, reflecting its growing focus on higher education.
