Dar Es Salaam: World Bank has approved USD 500 million that will benefit over 12 million children in pre-primary and primary education in Tanzania's mainland, the World Bank has said in a statement.

According to reports citing the statement made on Wednesday, the 'BOOST Primary Student Learning Program for Results' aims to improve and expand access to pre-primary and primary education across the east African country. The World Bank-funded education programme would help Tanzanian primary schools become safer, more inclusive, and child-friendly, as well as improve instructors' subject matter understanding, the statement said.

The overall goal of the scheme is to ensure that all children, including the most marginalised, are able to enroll early, build strong fundamental skills, and complete a quality education.

According to the statement, the initiative, which was developed in collaboration with the government and other development partners, would assist Tanzania's education sector development strategy over the next five years by providing result-based finance to catalyse changes.

"By expanding access and lowering gender disparities in basic education, Tanzania has made significant progress in education," said Mara Warwick, World Bank Country Director for Tanzania.
