Recently launched two new SUVs, Tata Curvv and Citroen Basalt, have created a stir in the Indian market. Both the vehicles are making a new identity in the compact SUV segment, and the special thing is that their launch has happened very close to each other. Both these vehicles are becoming increasingly popular in the market due to their attractive design, powerful features, and price.

Tata Curve: A strong start

Tata Curve is a compact SUV, which has achieved great sales figures since its launch. In August 2024, 3455 units of Tata Curve were sold, which is considered a strong start.

Tata Curve was first launched as an electric vehicle (EV), with a starting price of Rs 17.49 lakh. This electric vehicle comes with two battery pack options - 45kWh and 55kWh, which gives it great range and better performance. Apart from this, Tata has also recently launched a petrol engine (ICE) version of the Curve, which is priced starting at Rs 9.99 lakh. It gets two turbo petrol engine options, one of which is a new direct-injection turbo petrol engine. Along with this, the option of the diesel engine is also available.

Tata Curve is rapidly gaining the attention of customers due to its excellent features, powerful engine, and attractive design. Both its electric and petrol versions are becoming quite popular in their respective segments.

Citroen Basalt: Popularity is slowly increasing

Talking about the Citroen Basalt, this vehicle was also been launched in the market in August 2024 and its 579 units were sold. Although this number is less than that of the Tata Curve, it can be considered a good start for the Citroen brand.

The Citroen Basalt starts at Rs 7.99 lakh, making it an excellent option for budget buyers. Its turbo version starts at Rs 11.4 lakh. The turbo model of the Basalt gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, while the entry-level model has a manual gearbox.

Citroen Basalt is slowly becoming popular among Indian customers due to its attractive looks and features. Its sales are expected to increase further in the coming days.

What do the sales numbers say?

Both Tata Curve and Citroen Basalt have made a strong entry in their respective segments. While Tata Curve has recorded great sales figures since its launch, Citroen Basalt's sales are slow at present, but there is every possibility of it increasing in the future.

This new trend of coupe SUVs is slowly catching on in the Indian market. Customers are giving a positive response to the style and features of these vehicles. However, there is a huge difference in the prices of both vehicles, which can divide their target customers into different segments.

Who will win in the long run?

Now it will be interesting to see how the sales of these two SUVs remain in the long term. Only time will tell how much this new style of coupe SUV attracts Indian buyers. Looking at the features and price of both vehicles, it will be interesting to keep an eye on their sales and competition in the coming months. Tata Curve and Citroen Basalt, are both vehicles that are making a mark in the market with their respective features. Tata Curve is currently ahead with its strong hold and great sales, while Citroen Basalt is slowly winning the hearts of its customers.
