Tata Electronics' Rapid Growth Boosted by Apple’s Expansion in India

Tata Electronics has seen remarkable growth, driven by Apple's expanding presence in India. Recent filings reveal that Tata Electronics' revenue surged ninefold over the past year, reaching Rs.3,802 crore compared to ₹401 crore in FY23. This significant increase is attributed to Tata’s strategic acquisition of Wistron's iPhone assembly plant near Bengaluru, completed in March 2024. This acquisition has integrated Tata Electronics into Apple's global supply chain, making it India's only homegrown iPhone assembler.

Looking ahead, Tata Electronics plans to further its expansion with a new iPhone assembly unit in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The company is investing ₹6,000 crore in this new facility, which is slated to start operations in November 2024.

Additionally, Tata Electronics was reportedly in discussions earlier this year to acquire a majority stake in Pegatron's India factory, another Apple contract manufacturer. Although the deal was anticipated to conclude around July-August, there have been no updates yet. Securing this stake could strengthen Tata’s partnership with Apple even further.

In parallel, Apple is set to produce its high-end iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models in India for the first time this year. Foxconn's factory in Tamil Nadu is already preparing to assemble these premium devices, and Tata’s facility is expected to join in soon, with a focus on exporting the Pro models.

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently highlighted the company's achievements in India during an earnings call. He noted, "We set quarterly revenue records in more than two dozen countries and regions, including... India," emphasizing the growing importance of the Indian market in Apple’s global strategy.
