In a bid to expand its fleet and network, Tata Group-owned Air India is set to hire over 1,000 pilots. The carrier is hiring both captains, as well as trainers.

The company said, that it is providing captains, first officers, and trainers throughout its fleet of A320, B777, B787, and B737 aircraft with a variety of options for faster growth. More than 500 new aircraft are joining its fleet, it added.
Air India's pilots have expressed worry on the airline's most recent decision to change their pay structure and working conditions.

The two pilot unions, Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) and Indian Pilots Guild (IPG), have since rejected Air India's revised compensation structure for its pilots and cabin crew on the grounds that the airline, in alleged violation of labour laws, did not consult them before finalising the new contracts.

The two unions also urged their members not to sign/accept the revised contract and salary structure.
Tata Group acquired Air India at the end of January 2022 after it had been governed for about 70 years.

Earlier on April 17, Air India rolled out a revised compensation structure for its pilots and cabin crew, which has since been rejected by the 2 pilot unions  namely Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) and the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) - on grounds that the airline, in alleged violation of labour practices, did not consult them before finalising the new contracts.
