Leading global automobile manufacturer Tata Motors on February 20 said the Company will supply 25,000 XPRES-T electric vehicle units to Uber in one of the largest deals in the green mobility space till date.

As per an MOU signed between Tata Motors and Uber, the latter will utilise the electric sedans in its premium category service, the conglomorate said in a joint statement. The electric fleet would be functional across Delhi National Capital Region, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Ahmedabad, the company added.

Tata Motors will begin the deliveries of the cars to Uber fleet partners in a phased manner, starting this month. The price of a single unit of XPRES-T starts from Rs 13.04 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). A single unit of X-Pres-T (ex-showroom), with a range of 315 km, is priced @ Rs 14.98 lakh and entails a Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles subsidy of Rs 2.6 lakh.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility MD Shailesh Chandra said in a statement as follows: ''In line with our commitment to grow sustainable mobility in the country, we are delighted to partner with Uber, India's leading ride-sharing platform.'' 

Providing clients with environmentally friendly EV trip experiences through Uber's premium category service will hasten the uptake of green and clean individual ride-sharing.This alliance will further solidify our market position in the fleet industry, he said.

Uber India and South Asia President Prabhjeet Singh said the company (Uber) is committed to bringing sustainable, shared mobility to India, and this partnership with Tata Motors is a major milestone in that journey.

It is the largest EV partnership between a carmaker and an Indian ridesharing service to date. As we aim to create a sustainable future, it will accelerate the switch to zero emissions on the Uber platform," he added.

At its facilities, Tata Motors has produced more than 50,000 EVs so far for the consumer and fleet markets.  The carmaker introduced the "XPRES" brand in July 2021, which was created specifically for fleet clients. The XPRES-T EV is the first car to carry this brand.

There are two range options available for the new XPRES-T electric saloon: 315 km and 277 km (ARAI-certified range under test conditions). It contains a high energy density battery with a capacity of 26 kWh and 25.5 kWh, which can be charged normally or quickly from 0% to 80% in 59 minutes and 110 minutes, respectively.

It comes with zero tail-pipe emission, single-speed automatic transmission, dual airbags, and Anti-lock braking systems with  Electronic Braking Systemas standard across variants.
