New Delhi: IRCTC , The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation offers the facility of tatkal ticket booking. Individuals can book tatkal tickets with the online facility via IRCTC website, www.irctc.co.in, and the Indian Railways counters. The availability of tatkal tickets may also fall short in coming days as the festival of colours -- Holi -- is round the corner, a number of people are expected to travel to their respective hometowns, while, some might be planning to visit relatives. 

According to IRCTC, the advance reservation period (ARP) of tatkal ticket booking is reduced from two days to one day excluding the day of journey from the train originating station. An individual can book a tatkal train ticket before one day from the actual departure date of the train, for AC classes (2A, 3A, CC, 3E) tatkal window opens at 10 am while for non-AC classes (SL, FC, 2S) tatkal window opens at 11 am.

IRCTC tatkal ticket booking rules

•  IRCTC tatkal tickets can be booked for a maximum of four passengers per PNR.
•  Indian Railways doesn’t allow Ladies and general quota along with tatkal quota and tatkal train tickets can’t be booked for first AC and Executive class. Further, no concession is allowed in tatkal booking.
•  IRCTC levies a fixed charge for tatkal ticket booking at the rate of 10 per cent of basic fare for second class and 30 per cent of the basic fare for all other classes subject to a certain minimum and maximum charges. 
•  For the sleeper class, Indian Railways charges a minimum of Rs 100 and a maximum of Rs 200 for booking a train ticket under the tatkal quota. For an AC Chair Car ticket, the charges levied by the Indian Railways are in the range of Rs 125-225.
• No refund will be granted on cancellation of confirmed tatkal train tickets.
