Amidst significant transformations in the global IT sector, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) continues to assert its role as a pivotal hub for talent, especially in India, where it plans to ramp up hiring efforts.
In the June quarter, TCS expanded its workforce by 5,452 employees, bringing its total headcount to 606,998. The company now aims to onboard approximately 40,000 freshers in the current financial year, signaling a robust recruitment drive amidst evolving industry dynamics.
Milind Lakkad, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of TCS, reaffirmed India's strategic importance for talent acquisition despite global challenges. "India remains a talent destination, and our commitment to nurturing this talent remains steadfast," Lakkad emphasized. He highlighted TCS's extensive reskilling and upskilling initiatives designed to bridge academia-industry gaps and meet diverse skill demands effectively.
"I am confident about the positive trajectory of Indian talent," Lakkad stated optimistically, underscoring TCS's proactive stance in adapting to technological advancements and market demands.
Addressing concerns about the impact of AI and automation on jobs, Lakkad assured that TCS employees are well-equipped to adapt. The company has implemented salary increments ranging from 4.5% to 7%, with top performers receiving higher rewards of 10-12%. The Elevate Runway program, aimed at accelerating career growth through intensive learning paths, has seen substantial participation, benefiting over 400,000 employees across all levels.
TCS's mid-level Transformation program (MLT) further supports employees in acquiring new skills aligned with market trends, facilitating smoother transitions into new roles within the organization.
Recently, TCS updated its variable pay policy to include office attendance as a critical factor, reflecting evolving workplace dynamics. While acknowledging that 70% of employees have returned to office settings, Lakkad clarified that the policy adjustment aims to foster a disciplined and positive work environment rather than penalize remote work preferences.
As India's IT landscape evolves, TCS's proactive measures underscore its commitment to talent development and leadership in navigating global technological shifts.
