TDP leader in Andhra stabbed by someone acting as an alms-seeker

Amaravathi: On Thursday, a knife attack by an unknown person acting as an alms-seeker stabbed a leader of the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh. On Thursday, the event took place at Tuni in the Kakinada district. P. Sheshagiri Rao suffered severe head and hand injuries.

In front of his house, the assailant who was acting as an alms-seeker struck him as he took alms from his hands. The attack was captured on CCTV.

The assailant is seen abruptly pulling out a knife and striking Rao while snatching alms from his hands. He is dressed in a swami mala and a saffron scarf. He continued to stab the TDP leader till he fell to the ground. After hearing Rao's shouts, Rao's family members went outside, but the attacker fled on a motorcycle.

The TDP leader was admitted to a corporate hospital in Tuni. TDP leaders and former ministers Chinna Rajappa and Yanamala Ramakrishnudu paid a visit to the hospital and spoke with Rao.

The TDP has charged Dadisetti Raja's supporters with carrying out the assault on Sheshagiri Rao. The president of TDP's Andhra Pradesh branch, K. Atchannaidu, denounced the killing attempt on Rao.

He said ministers and MLAs were following in the footsteps of Chief Minister Y S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The TDP leader said that Sheshagiri Rao was attacked for standing up to the "repression" and "injustices" by the YSRCP. Atchannaidu mentioned his party would continue to fight till all those who carried out the attempt to murder and those behind it are brought to book.
