Jio GigaFiber has been named Jio Fiber at the AGM meeting of telecom giant Reliance Jio held yesterday. The high-speed broadband service will be commercially launched from September 5. The service was announced last year. Over the past year, it has been tested in about 5 million homes. The service will now be launched commercially from September 5 in the name of Jio Fiber. The service will offer users a minimum speed of up to 100 Mbps. No plans for this high-speed broadband service have been announced so far. It's only reported that its plans can range from Rs 700 to Rs 10,000.
For your information, Jio is targeting smart homes as well as SMEs and enterprises through this broadband service. The question now arises why this broadband service has been named Jio Fiber from Jio GigaFiber. While the company has not made any official announcement about it, it is being speculated that the company will provide voice calling as well as IPTV (TV) service in addition to data through Fiber. If you don't know about Jio Fiber, you'll find all the solutions in a single package through this broadband service. For example, if you need a TV with an Internet connection, you won't have to take a separate connection. You'll also get ATV service through Jio Fiber. Also, users who take fixed-line service will be given a fixed-line connection through Jio Fiber. All of these services will depend on data access through fiber networks.
According to media reports, at the Reliance AGM meeting held yesterday, the company's chairman Mukesh Ambani said that Jio Fiber will provide speeds ranging from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. He also said that users in the US get an average broadband speed of 90 Mbps. Jio Fiber users will get a minimum speed of 100 Mbps. This means that users in India will get data access at a faster speed than the US. This will help promote IoT (Internet of Things) and digital transformation in India. Jio Fiber users will also be offered set-top boxes for TVs. A smart TV with a set-top box will also be offered for free to users who subscribe to the connection. It will be available only on September 5. The company has also announced about the Jio Postpaid Plus plan. It will offer users unlimited international fixed-line calling in the US and Canada at Rs 500. On the other hand, with fixed-line, users can make unlimited free calling on any fixed line in the country.
