New Delhi: Tejas Express, a private train running between New Delhi and Lucknow, arrived more than three hours late on 19 October. Due to this, IRCTC will now have to pay a compensation of about 1.62 lakh rupees. This is the first time in the history of Railways that Indian Railways will give compensation to 950 passengers through insurance companies.

Railway officials said on Monday that the Tejas Express left Lucknow at 9.55 in the morning instead of 6.10 in the morning and New Delhi reached around 12.40 in the afternoon instead of 12.25. From New Delhi, it left for Lucknow at 5.30 pm instead of 3.55 in the evening. The time of this train to reach Lucknow is 10.05 am, while it reached Lucknow at 11.30 pm. For this reason, every person going from Lucknow to Delhi will be given a compensation of two and a half rupees and for those going from Delhi to Lucknow, Rs 500 will be given compensation.

According to the official, the insurance company has sent a link on the mobile of each passenger, besides this link is also recorded on every ticket. The amount can be withdrawn by visiting that link. The officer had said that on October 19, four coaches of a train derailed near Kanpur, hence there was a delay in operating the Tejas Express.
