Patna: A potentially divisive video featuring DMK leader Dayanidhi Maran has emerged, causing a stir within the INDIA bloc ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha contest just months away. The unverified video allegedly captures Maran comparing the career prospects of those versed only in Hindi with those proficient in English. He states that people solely educated in Hindi in Bihar engage in ‘building houses’ and ‘cleaning toilets’ in Tamil Nadu, contrasting them with those in Tamil Nadu who, due to their English proficiency, secure lucrative positions in IT companies.

Amidst the controversy, DMK sources assert that the video is dated and has been strategically circulated by the BJP to divert attention from Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s confrontation with the Tamil Nadu government over flood relief funds. It should be noted that the DMK has been at the forefront of protests against perceived attempts to impose Hindi in Tamil Nadu, a matter that resonates deeply with the state’s sentiments.

The video has triggered a political storm, drawing condemnation from leaders of both the BJP and its ally, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), in Bihar. Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and RJD leader, Tejashwi Yadav, condemned Maran’s remarks, stating the unity of the country and urging leaders from other states to refrain from making divisive statements.

Union Minister and Bihar leader Giriraj Singh seized the opportunity to launch a scathing attack on the DMK and its ally, Congress, accusing them of using language that aims to fracture the nation. He defended the hard work of people from Bihar, regardless of their location, asserting that their contributions are integral to the development of the states they work in.

As the video continues to spark controversy, with leaders calling for clarification from prominent figures like Rahul Gandhi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the INDIA bloc faces internal conflicts and regional rivalries. The new controversy compounds existing challenges, further intensifying the Opposition’s race against time to present a united front against the formidable BJP in the upcoming elections.
