Hyderabad: On Saturday, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy praised Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi, recognizing him as the only Member of Parliament from the state who consistently speaks for the poor in parliament. The Congress leader made these remarks during the launch event of the book Prophet for the World in Hyderabad, where he acknowledged Owaisi’s dedication to the welfare of marginalized communities.

Reddy described Owaisi as the "voice of the poor" and noted his relentless efforts to uplift underprivileged sections of society. He went on to say, "Even when he spoke against Congress, I liked it because our own brother (from Hyderabad) is raising his voice. If somebody speaks against us, he doesn’t become our enemy. There may be some mistakes in running a government. To correct those mistakes, we need a strong opposition, whether in the state or the country." Over the years, Owaisi has been a vocal critic of Congress on several key issues, particularly those that affect the Muslim community. Despite this, Reddy acknowledged the importance of a strong opposition, viewing it as necessary for addressing shortcomings in governance.

In addition to praising Owaisi, the Telangana Chief Minister called for collective efforts to counter growing attempts to spread hatred in the country. Reddy emphasized the need for unity, stating, "The teachings of Prophet Muhammad, the Gita, and the Bible all aim at ensuring peace in the country and the world. We should all stand together to stop those who are trying to spread poison."

He further stressed that it is the responsibility of Indians to protect the nation, saying, "India is our country, and it is our responsibility to safeguard it. No one else will come to save the country. There’s nothing wrong with trying to win elections, but we should guard against people who spread poison to win."

Reddy also expressed concern over the rising trend of hate-filled speeches in the Lok Sabha, observing that the number of leaders speaking for the welfare of the people has diminished. He warned that divisive rhetoric is increasing in parliament, urging citizens to be vigilant and not allow hatred to be spread for political gain.
