Telangana state will soon launch the world Buddhist pilgrimage circuit. According to a recent report, the iconic Buddhavanam project at Nagarjuna Sagar in Nalgonda is ready to start in a few days, with some last minute touch-up work being completed in the week.
The project is the first of this kind and the largest Buddhist heritage theme park in the world, officials said. With the aim of increasing tourist opportunities and attracting national and international tourists, especially from Southeast Asian countries, Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation has launched the 'Buddhavanam - Buddhist Theme Park' project.
The main point of the project is that eight sections developed based on Buddhist concepts are Buddhacharitavanam, Jataka Park, Stupa Park, Dhyanavana, Mahastupa, Acharya Nagarjuna International Center for High Buddhist Practice, Lower Krishna Valley Park and Buddhism in Telangana. Apart from these, there are other facilities for visitors, such as entrance plaza, cottages, food courts and visitors.
The Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 25 crore to complete the remaining works. The expert committee has been set up with prominent Buddhist scholars, architects, historians and state government officials to take up the development work of the project. Sandeep Kamble, the famous Buddhist architect, has been appointed as an interior dome consultant.
