Telangana Flood Relief: Kejriwal Announces Rs 15 Crore

As Hyderabad combats floord, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced a donation of Rs 15 crore as part of relief efforts in flood-hit Telangana. He said, people of Delhi stand with residents of the state, floods have caused chaos in Hyderabad and people of Delhi stand by our brother and sisters in Hyderabad in this time of crisis. Delhi govt will donate Rs 15 cr to the Govt of Telangana for its relief efforts.

Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao said on Monday that as many as 70 people have died in rain-fury incidents during the past week in the state. The minister said that Hyderabad received the second-highest recorded rainfall after 1908, which forced the state government to relocate about 37,000 people from low-lying areas to relief camps. As per him, 33 people in Greater Hyderabad. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation    and neighbouring areas, and 37 people in districts have lost their lives.

A new spell of heavy rains on last week-end  caused flooding on Sunday in some parts of the city after it last week recorded one of the worst floods in recent times following unprecedented heavy shower in over a century. Telangana government, in a preliminary estimate, had pegged the losses at over Rs 5,000 crore caused on account of rains and floods. Kejriwal’s announcement comes a day after his Tamil Nadu counterpart Edappadi Palaniswami donated Rs 10 crore to Telangana from the CM’s Relief Fund.
