On Thursday, a two-judge panel of the Telangana High Court ordered the sale of crackers to be banned. The two judge panel Chief Justice Ragvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijayasen Reddy have ordered the state government to ban crackers for the upcoming Diwali festival.
Telangana was not the first state to take this decision, but many other states also implemented it. The panel has passed the order and asked the government to issue orders to close cracker shops and file cases against those who violated it. It has ordered the government to educate the public about the ban on crackers through various media platforms. The panel dealt with a writ petition filed by practice advocate Indra Prakash, who was personally present as a party.
The panel observed that Rajasthan and other states had banned crackers for the festival. The panel suggested that the apex court upheld the Kolkata High Court's decision to ban crackers in West Bengal. The government has ordered the report of action taken on November 19 and postponed the case. The Chief Justice has directed the state government to appeal to the people through print and electronic media to stop the crackers to avoid further deterioration of air quality.
