Chief Minister K. S. Chandrashekhar Rao held an emergency meeting on Thursday. After that, rs 5 lakh ex-gratia was announced to the relatives of the deceased in rain related incidents in the state. He directed the authorities to provide relief to people suffering from rain and floods on a war footing and asked the state government to distribute three blankets, rice, pulses and other essential commodities to each household.
Officials said that 50 people, including 11 people, were killed in rain-related incidents in the GHMC area till Thursday. Crop loss across the state is Rs 2,000 crore. The Chief Minister has released Rs 5 crore to greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to speed up the relief efforts. The Chief Minister announced the decision at a high-level review meeting at Pragati Bhavan here to take stock of the relief work in the state. He directed the implementation of the GHMC considering the impact of rains on the city.
He assured the people that the government would provide new houses to those who collapsed during the flood and that the government would repair the partially damaged houses for free. He said that the new houses would be constructed in alternative locations as the collapsed houses were built on the city's canals (Nalas). He ordered the authorities to drain water from the lowlands and apartment complexes and warned against restoring electricity until the last drop of water was out of the room, as the power supply in such areas could be a cause of death.
