Hyderabad: More than 70 per cent e-challans have been issued against vehicle owners for violating the provisions of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. Disclosing the information to the media, officials said that e-challans were mostly made on motorists in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachkonda. With over 1.75 crore traffic violation cases reported in 2020, 85 per cent of the cases against motorists for violating regulations under the evidence-based e-challan system across the state in the wake of the epidemic are non-contact mode, the official said. He said there were 6,65,076 surveillance cameras recorded, most of which were set up at congested intersections in the state. With the help of these, cases were registered against people violating traffic rules.

The official said the police department was using a good amount of money to improve the signal system in various places besides introducing technology-based programs. More than Rs 66 crore has been spent on the signal system.
