Telecom Ministry to Develop Actionable Plan on Sector Issues: Scindia

NEW DELHI: The telecom ministry, under the leadership of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, is set to formulate an actionable plan with defined timelines to address key issues identified by various committees within the sector. Scindia announced on Tuesday that significant progress had been made following meetings with three of the six committees established by the ministry.

During discussions with telecom operators, including prominent figures like Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani, Bharti Airtel Founder Sunil Bharti Mittal, and Vodafone Idea MD Akshaya Moondra, Scindia emphasized the comprehensive agenda outlined by these committees. Moving forward, Scindia highlighted the imminent first presentations from these committees over the coming weeks, aiming to delve into specifics and devise concrete action plans and timelines.

"These committees are pivotal to the Indian communication sector," Scindia affirmed, underscoring their role in advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of achieving self-reliance and positioning India as a global telecom powerhouse. The minister also engaged with representatives from internet service providers, infrastructure, academia, and R&D committees, signaling a collaborative effort to propel the sector forward.

Previously, Scindia convened advisory groups on satellite, communications, electronics ecosystems, and original equipment makers, with key industry leaders such as Nokia India's Tarun Chhabra, Samsung's J B Park, and Cisco System India's Harish Krishnan in attendance. The discussions aimed to chart a roadmap towards enhancing self-reliance and global competitiveness in the sector.
