If the telecom companies, which are battling amidst adjusted gross revenue liability, are not relieved, the sector may once again see consolidation. Kotak Institutional Equities said this in a report on Sunday. Apart from this, some other brokerage houses said that if the government gives relief to telecom companies, then there can be no conflict with the Supreme Court. Earlier in 2016, after the launch of Reliance Jio, there was a merger of Vodafone and Idea. Many companies were closed with this.
Kotak Institutional Equities said that if there is no specific relief, then there may be a change in the nature of the industry. The brokerage house said, "If the regulatory levy, spectrum payments and floor pricing are not relieved, then the Indian telecom industry could see consolidation once again."
On the one hand, ICICI Securities said, "Even though negotiations are going on with the government for relief, it remains to be seen how much relief the government gives to the sector and especially to Vodafone Idea."
SBI Cap Securities said, "In any case, Vodafone Idea may have to incur large amounts of capital to continue operations." Right now the company has said that now it can depend to a large extent on government relief. The company had a loss of Rs 50,921 crore in the July-September quarter.
