Srinagar: The terror monitoring group (TMG) strategy in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir seems to be weighing heavily on terrorist organisations. The effective action of TMG has helped a lot in cracking down on the ground network of terrorists. The raids by agencies to break the terror funding network has had a huge impact. Overground workers (OGW) have been arrested on a large scale. Sources said that agencies are pushing hard to break the link between OGW workers and terrorists.
In Jammu and Kashmir, more than 1,900 people have been arrested for providing logistics assistance to terrorists as part of an operation to rein in the OGW network. In 2020 and 2021, about 195 terror modules were busted in Jammu and Kashmir and about 35 terrorist hideouts were disclosed last year. Sources said that earlier there was more focus on eliminating terrorists active in counter-terrorism operations. But now, as part of an effective strategy, emphasis is being laid on dismantling the terror structure. In Jammu and Kashmir, strict action is also being taken under UAPA and PSA.
State that between 2019 and 2021, the number of cases under UAPA has increased from 437 (2019) to 557 in 2020 and has been around 500 in 2021. the number of prisoners PSA increased from 134 in 2020 to 331 last year.
