Srinagar: A police officer in Srinagar's Eidgah area was targeted by terrorists, resulting in injuries. He has been transported to a hospital, and the area has been sealed off as authorities search for the assailants, according to the police.

This incident follows a recent escalation in ceasefire violations along the international border, despite a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan established in February 2021. In the Arnia sector along the border, a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel sustained injuries due to unprovoked firing and mortar shelling on Thursday. As a result of mortar shells hitting residential areas, many villagers have evacuated their homes.

A meeting was convened on Wednesday at the headquarters of the 15 Corps in Srinagar, bringing together senior officials from Jammu and Kashmir and security agencies. The involvement of foreign terrorists in Kashmir was a prominent topic of discussion during the meeting.

Official statistics reveal that out of the 46 terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir this year, 37 were of Pakistani origin, while only nine were local individuals. This marks the first time in the 33-year history of terrorism in the Union Territory that the number of foreign terrorists killed has exceeded local terrorists by a factor of four.

The Ministry of Home Affairs reports that around 130 terrorists are currently active in the Valley, with approximately half of them being foreign terrorists.
