New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor expressed confidence that opposition parties speaking against the Congress will come together as all of them aim to defeat the BJP. Tharoor's statement comes at a time when Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee made a statement on forming an alliance without Congress.

Former Union Minister Tharoor mocked the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over the Centre's decision to celebrate Good Governance Week and said that the "essence of good governance" has been missing for the last seven years as the politics of slogans and symbolism has taken over good governance. Tharoor, with the release of his book 'Pride, Prejudice, and Panditri', alleged, "Independent voices are currently being strangled in the country."

Tharoor said, "There is a week in politics. There are still two and a half years left for the next Lok Sabha elections. We hope that those who are speaking in different tone will come together to defeat the BJP. The goal is to defeat not only the BJP but also its policies and politics. In recent times, several opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress, have attacked the Congress for failing to fight against the BJP.''
