The condition of 6 of these farmers is said to be critical. For the first time after the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the state, farmers have been lathi-charged. These farmers were demanding compensation for the damaged cotton crop under the banner of 'Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan)'. BKU Ugrahan has alleged that seven farmers were injured during the lathi-charge in Lambi.
According to reports, the farmers led by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) had taken hostage in the office, including the Naib Tehsildar of Lambi. Punjab Police rescued the Naib Tehsildar and staff by lathi-charging the farmers at 12 midnight on Monday (March 28, 2022). After the Naib Tehsildar Arjinder Singh and the staff came out, now the Tehsildars of the entire state have gone on strike. Malout SDM Pramod Singla justified the demand of the farmers and said that people of 10 villages are coming here and protesting. They are falsely claiming that 50 percent cotton crop has been destroyed.
At the same time, the leader of BKU Ugrahan, Gurpaksha says that seven farmers have been injured in the lathi charge of the police and they have been admitted to the government hospital in Lambi. Gurpaksha has also claimed that farmers' crops were damaged due to pink worm. The farmers allege that Muktsar district has been ignored in the matter of compensation for the crop of Narma, which was damaged by pink bollworm. In Muktsar district, most of the narma cultivation is done in Lambi block only. Only six villages of Lambi block were included in Girdavari and they too were yet to be compensated, while about 30 other villages were not included in Girdawari.
