Srinagar: A player playing cricket in Jammu and Kashmir has died due to a ball in his neck. The incident took place at Anantnag in South Kashmir. The deceased cricketer has been identified as 18-year-old Jahangir Ahmed War. Expressing grief over the incident, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Satypal Malik has announced an assistance of 5 lakh rupees to the kin of the deceased cricketer. On the other hand, the local police have registered a case in connection with the incident and have started their investigation.

A top official of the Jammu and Kashmir administration said that the district competition is being organised by Youth Seravis and Sports in Nanil area of Anantnag. The match between Budgam and Baramulla team was underway on Thursday. Jahangir Ahmed War was part of the baramulla district cricket team. He said right-handed batsman Jahangir Ahmed was batting. Meanwhile, a ball bounced and started going over his neck. Jahangir fell unconscious on the spot as soon as the ball hit.
Those present on the spot immediately admitted Jahangir to a nearby hospital. where doctors declared him dead. According to a top official of the Jammu and Kashmir administration, Jahangir was equipped with the helmets and other security items required for the sport. Despite this, the ball slipped from the middle of the hamlet and hit the neck. He said, Anantnag police have registered a case of the incident and have started their investigation.
