New Delhi: The threat of floods in the national capital Delhi has deepened. 1.59 lakh cusecs of water from Hathnikund Barrage has been released towards the capital which will reach Delhi in 72 hours. This water may add to the woes of Delhiites in the coming 72 hours. The River Yamuna is in spate due to incessant rains in the mountains and its water has now flowed beyond the Hathnikund barrage towards Delhi.
As soon as the 75,000 cusec figure is crossed in Hathinikund barrage, all the doors of the barrage are opened and all the water is diverted to Delhi by closing small canals. As soon as the water increased in The Hathni Kund Barrage due to incessant rains in the mountains, all the canals were closed and 1 lakh 59 thousand cusecs of water was released towards Delhi. The water will reach the Delhi border after about 72 hours, which may add to the problem in the coming days in the lower reaches of Haryana and Delhi. The water level of Yamuna is rising after the rains in Delhi. The day before, the Yamuna level in Delhi's ITO was 203.42 metres, which is about 1 metre below the danger mark.
