What is voice cloning : AI voice cloning is a technology which is also being used to imitate a person's voice. This fake voice is created with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) which is exactly the same. The method of copying voice is also called voice cloning. This voice is copied so well that it is difficult for anyone to differentiate between real and fake voice. Even relatives are not able to recognize him.

How a fake voice is created: Once a fraudster has got someone's audio clip, all he has to do is upload that voice clip to an online website/app with AI tools. This AI tool is capable of recording anything new in the same voice. New audio clips start downloading within a few seconds. There are many applications available online for such voice cloning. Some of these applications are free and some charge 15 to 100 dollars per month.

Just 3 seconds of voice note is enough for theft: Only three seconds of audio click is enough to copy your voice. With this small clip, anything new can be recorded in your voice in any language. Fraudsters will be able to take these audio clips from any of your audio, video or reels available on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube). Or if you have sent a voice note to someone on WhatsApp, you will be able to take audio clips from there also.

Half the work of the thugs is completed once they get the audio clip. Now all they have received is the information of your relative and their phone number. After which the phone is directly dialed to your relative or friend or they send a voice note and demand money saying it is an emergency.

What kind of excuses do fraudsters make?: The news says that cyber security agency McAfee has also revealed in its research report that in the world, voice scams through Artificial Intelligence are taking place the most in India. Here 1 in 4 people is affected by this type of scam. The report of the survey conducted on 7054 people in 7 countries of the world is as follows-

83 percent people are unable to find out whether the spam call they receive has been made with the help of a machine or software or is actually a human being speaking. The report revealed that 47 percent of Indians are either victims or know someone who has been a victim of AI voice scam. In the world this figure is 25 percent. 66 percent of Indians have said that most of such voice scam calls come from a friend or family member who is in urgent need of money. Which probably includes parents (46%), spouse (34%) or their children (12%). The most common claim in scam voice calls was 'I've been robbed' (70%). After this, excuses like 'car accident happened' (69%), 'phone lost/wallet lost' (65%) or 'I am abroad and need money urgently' (62%) were made. 

Ways to avoid fraud: First of all, special attention should be paid to calls coming from unknown numbers, do not believe their words immediately. It is also very important to ensure his identity before talking to him. You will be able to use apps like Truecaller that provide caller ID. 

You have to be alert if a call from a relative or friend comes from an unknown number. Try to disconnect the phone and call the person's real number and talk to them.

If the person makes an excuse of losing the phone or insists in some other way, then ask him some questions that only both of you know about. If he is a fraud then he will not be able to answer. If you still have doubts about him, ask him to come on video call. Transfer the money only after verification.

Avoid any urgent request from an unknown person. Such people always put pressure on others to take immediate decisions without thinking. Don't make any hasty decisions, especially when the person calling is asking for money or personal information.

Do not talk to an unknown person for a long time. Because as long as you continue the conversation, he will keep trying to convince you to give more money or information. End the conversation as soon as possible.
